Women
at War: The Rosies of WWII is a one-hour High-Definition
television documentary on American women working in
the war effort during World War II. To show the extraordinary
scope of work and lifestyle options now in place for
women in America today, emphasis will be put on the
abrupt transition from housewife to military officers,
weather service technicians, assembly-line riveters,
rail road operations, code-breakers, and entertainers.
After the war, while many women returned to “civilian” life,
they never forgot their war experiences and it helped
them encourage future generations of women to maintain
those hard-won freedoms.
This documentary is a chronology of transition of the
social context of women since the Second World War,
to today’s social, economic, and family framework.
We explore the Rosies of WWII and their experiences
taking on traditional men’s roles in the workforce.
Through their compelling stories we examine how their
service aided the war effort, which in turn, opened
up opportunities for women that were never before had,
we explore the tremendous spirit and tireless efforts
of these “Rosie's” and examine how the “Greatest
Generation” rose to the occasion and how their
lives were transformed and how their patriotism and
volunteerism has continued into the present.
